Our Very Own Librarian Named Classified Employee of the Year for Washington State

This school year so far has been a huge success for all of our athletics teams, between basketball, football, volleyball and all the other games to keep up with, we sometimes forget about our cheerleaders! The girls who rile up the crowd and get the school spirit going.
Mrs. Spencer is the one who makes it all happen and we got her to sit down and talk with us. She has been at lakeside for 11 years, three of which were spent at the elementary school, six at the middle school and the remaining two at Lakeside High School. This is her first year coaching the cheer team and she is determined to continue and make it better next year.
Some of her goals for next year are to try to change the culture of the school to get more school pride and spirit and supporting not just the sports teams but the clubs that are active in the school. She is trying to reach this goal by having the girls go to a leadership camp this summer after picking the team of new cheerleaders at the end of this school year. This should make our school a friendlier place with more school spirit.
Along with the rest of us, basketball has been her favorite sport for her team to cheer at. She says that although the schedule is constantly changing it has had the best events to cheer at because all of the energy and supporting crowd. Her highlights was “watching how far the girls skill level has progressed”, they’re very independent in their cheers and in their routines with Mrs. Spencer acting as the “clean up crew”, editing their routines to make them solid and neat. Some of her techniques include videotaping the girls’ practices so the girls can review their dances to see what they need to work on. To help them she takes in their ideas and goals and tries her hardest to make them happen, she loves and supports her team and Lakeside.
